Subtract the handicap or from the final score (when betting on Y), or add it (when betting on X) …

With the over / under bets in tennis betting, you also focus on the number of sets or games. For example, predict whether a match will take more or less than 3.5 sets or predict whether it will remain over or under a certain number of games.

This is one of the types of bets in tennis bettingthat are useful when you are not sure how to predict who will win the match. If it is a match between two top players, then, for example, many games will be needed.

If a big favorite plays against a lower-ranked player, the game may end quickly. Betting under a certain number of sets will give you better odds than betting on the winner.

Or do you see a player doing well in this tournament, but is he or she probably not going to make it all the way to the end? Then check the odds on the ‘winner each quarter’. Perhaps interesting to bet on your favorite there.

Tennis Betting Tip 12  Make a few blank tries or use free bets

Tennis is a sport in which 1 against 1 or 2 against 2 is played with a racket and tennis ball. Tennis is an extremely suitable recreational sport because the age category in which you can play it is very large, and there are several tennis courts available to play an individual game on.

At a professional level, tennis is a well-known top sport where strength, precision, technique and mental toughness are important to be successful.

Tennis technique and strokes

Tennis is a technical sport, in which it is important to have a good command of all hitting techniques, but also to use them consistently well to put an opponent under pressure. The main hitting techniques in tennis are the following:

Service – the service (normally overhead) where speed, direction and effect are given and the ball should enter the opponent’s service court.

Forehand – a blow with the palm facing forward and an open stance.

Backhand – a strike with the back of the hand forward and the racket in front of your body, in a more compact stance. (can also be double-handed)

Topspin – a ball with effect and speed forward. (can be played both backhand and forehand)

Slice – rollback effect to the ball. (can also be played backhand and forehand)

Lob – a high ball over reach of the opponent.

Volley – a ball collected from the air without bouncing. Often offensive close to the net.

Stroke – a long basic stroke over the entire playing field.

Dropshot – a shot played as close behind the net as possible without bouncing too much.

Smash – hit where a high ball is played with a lot of speed, almost like a service hit.

Drive – normal hit of a ball without first bouncing on its own half.

Tennis courts and surfaces

The playing field in tennis measures 78 feet long (23.77 meters) and 27 feet wide (8.23 meters). There are different surfaces that can be played on. The main ones are:

Grass – the well-known natural product

Artificial grass – alternative to natural grass

Gravel – crushed stone

Hard court – concrete or indoor plastic

Smashcourt – plastic mat with loose (ceramic) infill (infill)

Scoring in tennis

The points in tennis go according to an old British system (which probably has roots in France).

The first score is worth 15 points, then 30, 40 and ‘game’ (the game won). However, if it is in a game 40-40, there is a ‘deuce’ (tie) first, after which an ‘advantage’ must be obtained first, after which you can score the winning point. If you do not score here, but the opponent does, you will fall back to the tie (deuce).

The service changes per game. If a player has won 6 games, he or she wins the set. However, if there is a score of 5-6, then it must be played until 5-7, or a tie-break follows after 6-6.

 In a tie-break, there is first served once and then in turns of 2 and all points made count for 1 point each, until someone reaches 7 points, but until a difference of 2 arises. (so for example 7-4, but maybe also only 8-6 or 9-7)

A tennis match generally consists of a maximum of 3 sets won for men (you play a maximum of 5 sets) and 2 won sets for women (maximum 3 sets). The winner has won the ‘match’.

Tennis terms

1. Ace

A service that the opponent cannot reach with his racket.

2. Ad Court

Left of the court.

3. Advantage

A player scores the point after deuce and only needs one more point to win the game.

4. Allee

Space between the singles and the doubles sidelines.

5. Approach photo

Offensive shot preparing an attack on the net.

6. Backhand

Shot with the back of the dominant hand facing the opponent. The backhand can be played with one or two hands.

7. Bagel

A set that a player wins or loses 6-0.

8. Ball boys and ball girls

Children collect the balls on the tennis court and hand the towel to the players.

9. Throwing balls

The throw of the ball in the serving movement.

10. Baseline

The back line adjacent to the court. It runs parallel to the net.

11. Baseliner

A player who prefers to stay around the baseline during a rally.

12. Big point

Important, possibly decisive point in the match.

13. Break

A service game won by the server’s opponent. It is also said that the service is taken from the returnee.

14. Breakpoint

The returning player only needs one more point to break the server.

15. Bye

A player advances to the next round without having to play a match.

16. Challenge

Review of decision as to whether the ball was out of bounds or in court. Performed with the Hawk-Eye.

17. Challenger

Men’s Tournaments, which are organized for players outside the top 100 of the world rankings.

18. Chip and Charge

A tactic in which the receiver returns the serve and then quickly goes to the net to play a volley.

19. Cross lane

A shot where the ball is played diagonally into the opponent’s lane.

20. Damper

A rubber-like component placed between the strings to reduce the sound of the strings.

21. Net Kill

Ball that hits the net, but still rolls over the edge of the line to land in the opponent’s court.

22. Decisive point

On deuce, the next point decides on the win of the game. Mainly used in doubles.

23. Deuce

‘s score is 40-40. One of the players must score two points in a row to win the game. The only exception is the “Decision Point Rule”.

24. Deuce court

Right side of the court.

25. Double foul

Two consecutive faulty serves that win the receiver one point.

26. Doubles

A tennis match in which four players play against each other in teams of two.

27. In line with the line

A shot in which the ball is passed into the opponent’s lane from the side line.

28. Drive

A shot in which the ball is played straight and without a twist.

29. Drop Shot

A shot where the ball is placed just behind the net.

30. Foot foul

Foot Foul Serving error when the player hits the baseline with his foot. The determined attempt is then invalid.

31. Forced foul

A player places the ball so well that the opponent makes a foul.

32. Forehand

Training partner of a professional tennis player.

33. Framing

A shot where the ball is hit with the frame of the tennis racket.

34. Future

Series of tennis tournaments for men, which are one tier below Challenger tournaments.

35. Golden set

Suppose a player wins without losing even one point.

36. Golden Slam

A player wins all four Grand Slams and the Olympic gold medal within one calendar year.

37. Grand Slam

The four main tournaments in tennis: Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.

38. Basis

Forehand or backhand stroke, after the ball has bounced off the ground.

39. Half lane

Area around the service line.

40. Half Volley

A shot where the ball is hit off the ground shortly after it bounces.

41. Hawk-Eye

Electronic system that uses cameras to measure tennis ball impact on court. It is used when a player asks for a challenge. Only available at major tournaments.

42. Hitting partner

Name for an extended tennis racket.

43. Inside

A hit where a player wraps around his backhand and hits the ball over the line with his forehand.

44. Inside out

A hit in which a player runs around his backhand and hits the ball crossfield with his forehand.
